PIE IN THE SKY?   Leave a comment

Pie in the Sky?

. . . To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you . . . 1 Peter 1:4 KJV

I have to admit that years ago I had problems wrapping my head, and heart, around what I deemed was the “Pie in the Sky”philosophy of Christianity.  That is until I became a Christian.

For years I dealt with a lot of personal issues that I didn’t understand. I wondered “How can I subscribe to this notion of heaven, when I am going through these trials right now that for the most part, I hadn’t brought on myself?”  I heard ministers of the Gospel telling us that heaven was a place of glory and we were going to have no problems, with new incorruptible bodies, free of sickness and worry.

Fast forward to today.  I’ve come to realize over the past twenty years or so that I could look forward to a future as described by the Gospel. I still have many of the problems of the past and have even developed new health issues.  I’ve had neurological issues, cardio-vascular problems and I am now dealing with cancer.   But as I look back over my time as a bible believing Christian, I see God’s miraculous hand in my life, guiding, forgiving, providing, defending, healing and much more.  Not to forget that I also have the promise of eternal life (what I used to call the pie in the sky.)  Now, it’s real to me because I see what God can do in a person’s life.  He’ll take a sinner and make a believer out them.  Trust me, I am a believer.

You too can have that same promise.  All you need to do is make a firm decision to follow Jesus and that is not at all hard to do.  Just pray this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, I freely confess that I am a sinner.  I believe that You died a sinner’s

death and rose from the dead as a show of Your love for me and for the forgiveness

of my sins. I know that I have fallen short of Your Glory and ask you into my life to

by my Lord and Master.  I believe in Your forgiveness of my sins and I want to follow you

and trust You with my very being.  I want to commit my life to serving You. Thank

You Lord Jesus for Your grace and mercy.  This I pray in Your Holy Name, amen.

If you truly prayed that prayer, the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ now resides in your heart, never to leave you or forsake you. He will never let you down and you will spend eternity with Him in Heaven.  Get ready for some delicious pie!

OUT OF EGYPT

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.

                                                                                       Leviticus 26:13 ESV

What is your “Egypt?”   If you are a Christian, you will understand that question because of what happened to the Israelites in the old testament of the bible.  We have all experienced a kind of bondage of one sort or another, whether it was as a child or an adult.  It may have been, spiritual, physical, emotional or financial.  For some, that bondage is still a problem.  Regardless of the circumstances, whether past or present, you can experience deliverance from your Egypt.

“How?” you might ask.  The answer is simple, Trust in God!  After all, it was He who brought the Israelites out of Egypt and, and He brought them out with untold riches!  The book of Exodus chronicles the long arduous trek taken by them on their way to the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey.  Not only did they leave their bondage a wealthy people, they were headed for a destination richer than they could ever imagine.  Why, because God loved them.  They were His children, His Chosen People.  He saw their misery and heard their cries for mercy.

Will God do that for you and me today?  Will He bring us out of our bondage wealthy, headed for paradise?  YES!!! Why?  Because of what His son Jesus Christ has done for us.  The Jews at that time only had the promise of a Messiah (savior).  Today we have that Savior who died on a cross of shame for us to absolve us of our sins and make us holy before the Father.

When we turn to God the Father and ask forgiveness for our sins, accept His one and only Son as our Savior and truly repent, we become blameless before Him.  We stand in His presence as sinless children, clothed in garments of pure white no longer stained by sin, delivered from its bondage.  We become heirs to the throne of the King with the promise of everlasting life in a land we can only imagine.  The book of Revelation tells us that Heaven is a place where the streets are paved with gold as clear as glass (Rev. 21:21).

Would you like to be released from your “Egypt?”  The answer is simple.  Trust in God and His Son Jesus to deliver you.  He knows your misery and will hear your cries for mercy.  Leave your bondage behind you and load up on God’s riches, headed for a land that you can only imagine.  Start on your exodus today.
